Reservation is growing day by day from the day it was implemented just after independence. I don’t know if it was the foresight of the politicians at that time or they really cared for those who belonged to the weaker sections of the society but it is still working for their “child politicians”.

It has been well discussed that the reservation must not be there on the basis of the caste but on the basis of the economy (if it must be) , still we continue to divide the country on the basis of caste, religion, sex, etc (ironically while we are actually trying to unite by this.). Although we saw a glimpse of it in OBC reservation (exemption of creamy layer) , but the issue to be addressed is far from the reach of mere and dirty politics.

Whenever I hear stories of the destruction caused, when the mandal committee passed the matter of reservation for SC/ST people, my heart fills with sad anger. Do we always have to fight for our rights, do we always need to threaten the government for what we want. I saw a glimpse of it during the recent “Gujjar-Meena” issue, where the government bent after the community started to destroy the public property at large. Recently, while I was coming from Guwahati to Delhi, our Rajdhani was stopped by few CPI-M members protesting that no Rajdhani stops at their small station and they face problems commuting. When I inquired, I found New Jalpaiguri(NJP), the largest station of West Bengal was just 1 hour away. I agree you are having problems people but this is not the way to get your demands fulfilled by the government.

I just fear of the day when there will be incidents like this even for the demands of electricity or water. But there is no one else to complaint, our government never act until their ass is on fire.

I dream of the day when someone (at least one of them) will rise all above this, and will raise his/her (I don’t want to discriminate them) voice against the whole idea of dividing the country on the basis of caste or religion or sex. Amen!!
